Volunteer login

A volunteer you register yourself has never chosen a password: their account exists, but they cannot sign in to it yet. So that they do not have to work out that they should go through "forgotten password", Volunteo sends them a login link.

What the volunteer receives

The link is in the registration email, sent automatically as soon as you create their account. By following it, the volunteer chooses their password and arrives already signed in: there is nothing else for them to type.

This is the case however you registered them: added by hand, imported from a file, or carried over from the previous edition.

Sending the link again

The email went missing, or landed in the junk folder? You can send the link again at any time, as often as you need:

  • Open the volunteer's page
  • Email menu → Send the login link again

The volunteer then receives a new link. The previous one stops working: it is always the last email sent that counts.

Passing the link on some other way

Many volunteers are easier to reach by text message or instant messaging than by email. The Login link button on their page shows the link, with a button to copy it and paste it wherever you like.

This link is as good as a password. Anyone who opens it is signed in to the volunteer's account. Only pass it to the volunteer concerned, and avoid posting it in a group or in a shared conversation.

How long it lasts

A link stays valid for 30 days. You can therefore register your volunteers well in advance without leaving them in front of a dead link.

After that, the link is not a dead end: the page that appears offers the volunteer a new one, simply by entering their email address.

The volunteer has received nothing

Three things to check, in this order:

  • Their junk folder. By far the most common cause.
  • Their email address on their page. A typing mistake is enough; correct it, then send the link again.
  • Does the volunteer have an email address at all? If you registered them without one, no email can reach them: use the Login link button and pass it on some other way.

The volunteer can also sort it out alone: on the login page, the link "An organiser created my account: send me my login link" sends them exactly what they need.

What about volunteers who already have a password?

Those who registered themselves, or who took part in a previous edition, sign in as usual with their email address and their password. If they have forgotten it, the "Forgotten password" link on the login page is still the right way in.
